-afters with this year’s lineup of romantic holiday-themed movies to watch from the comfort of your own home
Alana Higman, a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan, and her family are competing to win the team’s Fan of the Year contest, in a process judged by Director of Fan Engagement Derrick. The film was shot on historic Independence Square in Independence, Missouri, which actually looks like the square year-round. The locations that served as the Higman family store and Norma and Nick’s BBQ restaurant are also family-owned stores in real life.
Okay, bad sports reference
The Square also does a Christmas lighting display just like the one in the movie. I have to give the writers and producers some credit here, because they tried something very different in a Christmas movie story, even if Christmas only involved wearing a Chiefs’ sled every time the team plays a game on Christmas Day. So they threw big, but only managed a bunt.
He has a unique style that we enjoy
Maybe I should say they went for a deep throw and only got a pass interference, not a bomb. Hunter King and Tyler Hynes had decent chemistry here and we liked Tyler in a few of these movies. However, there were a few things in this movie that took us out of the story, like a mother and grandmother practically throwing Hunter into a stranger’s lap the moment he walked in the door.

Then the whole trope of how Hunter got upset over the “not believing in the hat”; it was ridiculous, especially when it was the best the writers could come up with to put some late-night tension into the romance. The story worked, and Ed Begley, Jr. Parkinsons made him look 15 years older than he should have been 75, and that’s a shame, but it’s not his fault.
Thankfully, she only reappeared once, and briefly
Some films this year have had an annoying minor character who overacts in an embarrassing way, and this film is one of them. The grocery store owner nearly made me put this film on in the first five minutes. We don’t regret seeing this, despite some plot issues, but we won’t be going back for a repeat.
