Billing Policy

Do you want to know what happens when you make an online reservation through Booking.com?

When you make a booking on Booking.com, you need to put your credit card details but booking.com doesn’t charge anything​! They provide this information to El Misti Hostels, and it is El Misti Hostels who has the responsibility to charge 50% for the reservation to be confirmed.

Do you want to know what happens when you make an online reservation through El Misti Hostels website?

When you make a purchase through our website and put your credit card details, approximately 15% will be automatically charged as a commission for Hostelworld website​, because we use the booking engine of this platform on our site. After that, the platform provides us the data of your credit card and is El Misti Hostels who has the responsibility to charge the remaining 35% to complete the 50% advance and confirm your reservation.

Do you want to know what happens when you make an online reservation through Hostelworld?

Remember the platform we use on our site? When you make the purchase directly through Hostelworld and put your credit card details, they automatically charge a commission, which is approximately 15%​. Important, if you have changes in your plans, we need to know!

On the day of check-in we will be waiting for you. We know that unforeseen events happen, so please let us know by sending an email to [email protected] in case you can not come, or if you need to change the dates of your stay. According to our cancellation policies​ we will change your reservation or refund of money if applicable.

When is my booking guaranteed at El Misti Hostels?

Please note, your reservation still needs to be guaranteed at El Misti Hostels. We require a payment of 50% of the total amount. We will attempt to charge you with the credit card information provided within 7 days. If we can not collect, we will also contact you by offering other forms of payment. But…. we know that even in the 21st century, communication is not always easy. So, we ask you to contact us in case you don’t receive anything from us (by e-mail). Remember that your reservation will only be guaranteed with that payment of 50%.

When is the remaining balance charged in my reservation?

On your check-in we will charge the amount to pay with your previously provided credit card. Regardless of your arrival time, that charge can be made within the date of check-in, before you arrive at reception.

Got late? No problem, your reservation will be kept until 24 hours after the date of check-in.

Cancellation Policy

Do you need to cancel your reservation?

In case of cancellations, please let us know at least 72 hours in advance of the check in date. Except on the special dates. For cancellation requests that fall within the stipulated time, an administrative fee of R$15,00 will be charged. If it doesn’t, it won’t be refundable. In case of NO show the hostel will have the right to charge 100% of the total of the reservation.

What are special dates? What are the specific conditions on each of them?

Check out the list of special dates we mentioned above. On these dates, cancellation terms may vary, so we have different policies. Please check the conditions that apply to the period of your reservation. Any questions please contact us.

● Cancellations of groups of more than 6 people can only be made with a minimum of 30 days in advance of the check in date so that the total amount paid for the reservation is returned. After this date no refund will be made of the amount paid;

● For reservations made with non-refundable cancellation policy will be charged 100% of the total value of the reservation. If any cancellation occurs no deposit will be returned;

● Cancellations of Rock in Rio 2019 packages can only be made with a minimum of 15 days in advance of the check in date so that the total amount paid for the reservation is returned. After this date no refund of the amount paid will be made;

● Cancellations of New Year’s packages (27/12/2018 until 04/01/2019 ) can only be made with a minimum of 30 days in advance of the check in date so that the total amount paid for the reservation is returned. After this date no refund of the amount paid will be made;

● Cancellations of Summer Season 2018/2019 packages (05/01/2019 until 06/02/2019) ) can only be made with a minimum of 15 days in advance of the check in date so that the total amount paid for the reservation is returned. After this date no refund of the amount paid will be made;

● Cancellations of Carnival 2019 packages (27/02/2019 until 06/03/2019) can only be made with a minimum of 30 days in advance of the check in date so that the total amount paid for the reservation is returned. After this date no refund of the amount paid will be made;

Check-in and Living Area

After checking out, can I leave my belongings at the hostel?

Yes, we have a secure room where you can store your luggage for the day until you are ready to leave. You can also leave your luggage for several days, against a daily fee. For more information, please address our reception staff, they will be more than happy to help you!

Can I arrive by car to the hostel? Do you have a parking lot?

Yes! We have parking lots partners and we will arrange it for you.

Can I check In in the middle of the night?

Yes, our reception is open 24h/7d. If you book your stay for El Misti Suites, you will need to let us know in advance the time of arrival.

What are the Check-In and Check-Out times?

The check-in time starts at 1PM and the check-out time is at 11AM.

Can I bring my own beer?

Have you ever entered a bar with your own drink? We know better than that. It would be pretty weird at the very least. This is the logic here. We’re a hostel and also a bar, so it isn’t allowed to bring drinks from outside to inside the hostel, okay? We leave this very clear to avoid problems, but in case you forget – it will happen – our team will remember you with all care!

Can I host someone from outside the hostel?

We know you’re going to go out there talking about how the awesomeness of our common area and some friends who aren’t staying with us will soon want to meet. Your friend is our friend. But for everyone’s safety, nobody who’s outside the hostel are allowed inside the rooms. Visitors can only enjoy the common areas, okay?

Can I listen to music inside the hostel?

We know that your playlist is incredible, that your favorite song is very good and that everyone needs to know this new band that Spotify has just told you. But using speakers in the bedroom is not – definitely – the best way to spread the music around. Got it?

Do you enjoy a nice party?

Great, we also don’t give up a good party, but after 10:00 pm we need to respect who is in the mood to rest that night. What if the person that have scheduled one of the incredible tours that we indicated at the hostel need to leave early in the morning? We never know. So, be mindful. However, if you’re looking forward to a great party, just relax: our team always know to indicate the best option for you in the city. Just trust us and have fun!

How is life at a hostel?

How is the best way to share a dorm full of people?

Who have chosen a shared room will have to pay some attention and don’t bother your colleagues. For instance, you won’t like them to turn on the light when you decide to fall asleep, right? So, how about taking a look if there’s someone sleeping when you walk into the room, even during the day? After all, you will know what time – and under what conditions – the person arrived from the night.

You don’t want to leave the room smelling like that college excursion buses, right?

Remember how bad it was for someone to open that Cheetos package on the school tour? So don’t bring food and drinks to your bed. Besides the smell that can bother everyone, this can attract ants and other insects that we want very far.

What about the kitchen?

Saving is always very good, right? About this, we’ve a complete shared kitchen for you to prepare your food and leave the extra money to spend on the parties and attractions of Rio. Since everything in life has rules, here wouldn’t be different. The kitchen will be closed for guests during breakfast, as our team is cooking breakfast for the guests, and also after 10pm. Outside these times it’s all yours, but remember: the rule of “if you dirty, you wash” has to be followed in the kitchen for the good of all and general happiness of the guests and staff.

Hostels Rules - El Misti Suites

After a day on the beach, what should I do before going inside the hostel?

Sand is only cool on the beach! The sandstrip of Copacabana is a destination, as it’s only a few blocks from the hostel. But remember to clean your feet, bags, and other paraphernalia well before entering the hostel. It’s a simple attitude that makes a big difference for everyone.

Can I host someone from outside the hostel?

Security is good and we like it! Therefore, we ask your cooperation. Don’t take any person who isn’t staying with you to the hostel. This is a simple measure, but it ensures that only authorized people move through the common areas and especially the rooms. We trust your judgment, right?

Can I visit El Misti’s other units?

Once a El Misti’s guest, you’re welcome in any of the other units. This unit is ideal for those who want a quieter place, which doesn’t mean that you’ll be left out of the parties and events that happen in the other four units that we’ve in the city. In Copacabana alone, there’s three other units for you to explore, besides the Ipanema unit that also always has something going on.

Do I have to send a message prior to my arrival with my check in time?

We make every effort to receive you in a unique and personalized way, so be sure to check in at the time of your reservation. As we don’t have a reception at all times, you’ll be welcomed by a member of our hospitality team who will give you all the necessary information of the hostel, the neighborhood and the city. So, please contact us few days upon the time of your arrival. This way we can arrange everything to welcome you! Send us an email to [email protected]

How can I help with the maintenance of the hostel?

I clean, you clean and everyone enjoys. Our staff will leave everything in order every day, with that cleaning vibe that we all like. But because it’s a shared environment, maintenance depends on everyone doing their part. The simple rule of cleaning up the dirty you made, already makes a big difference.

How is the kitchen?

The hostel has a small kitchen where you can prepare fast meals. That’s a refrigerator to store your belongings and also a microwave that can be used whenever necessary. In addition, we have dishes, glasses and cutlery always at hand. Remembering that the basic rule of every hostel is that you become responsible for all of your dirty dishes!

If you want to prepare a more elaborate meal, you can use the kitchen of one of the other El Misti units in Copacabana. Addresses and details will be given at the time of your check-in, okay?

What about the keys?

The first difference you’ll notice upon arrival is the lack of reception, an innovative model that allows us to practice fair rates ​​in a hotel with a high level of comfort and privacy. You’ll receive a key that will open the door of the building and the one of your room, having total freedom.

What is El Misti Suites?

The Suites unit of the El Misti Hostels chain have comfort and privacy paying a fair amount of money. This unit is in the heart of the most famous neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro and will make you feel at home during your stay.

Because it’s a somewhat a different type of hostel, we’d like to clarify some details here so that you only have good experiences while you’re in one of our rooms. So keep reading!

Reservation

Can children stay in dorm?

Unfortunately no. The minimum age required to stay in a dorm room is 18 years old. What you could do, is book a private room. Underage guests can stay in private rooms if they are accompagnied by a legal responsible parent.

Can I book an entire room for me and my friends?

Of course! We have shared dorms starting from 2 to 12 beds available.

Can I change rooms?

You can talk to our reception staff, they will do their best to help you depending on current available spots.

Can I choose my bed?

Unfortunately, we can not guarantee you a specific bed upon arrival. But, in case you would not be satisfied with your bed, our reception staff will be happy to check available options for you. Another solution, would be to book a private room for your stay.

Can I get an upgrade?

You can talk to our reception staff, they will do their best to help you depending on current available spots.

Can I make a group booking?

Yes of course! We often receive groups of students, friends, bachelor parties etc.

Do you have women exclusive dorms?

Yes, we do have women exclusive dorms.

How do I pay for my reservation?

It depends on the booking channel you are using. If you book with our Customer Service, we can guarantee you will get a better price than via any other channel.

What are dorms?

Dorms are shared rooms. We have rooms that can be shared from 4 to 12 persons. The price will also vary depending on the number of people that are in the room.

When will I be charged?

You will be charged 50% of the reservation upon your arrival. The 50% left, will be due at the time of the check-in, at the reception.

Are your hostels safe?

Our hostels are safe and secure. We have a security team day and night. Inside the hostel, we recommend you not leaving your valuables unnattended as this is a shared place. This is the reason why we provide lockers.

Do the hostels have internet?

Yes, all of our hostels are equipped with excellent wifi available in commun area and rooms.

Do you have a bar in the hostel? What are the opening hours?

Yes, all of our hostels have bars. The opening hours depend on the hostel you are staying in. Simply ask the reception staff.

Do you have a bike rentals service?

Do you have any LGBT related program/attraction?

Here in Rio de Janeiro, you can find all kind of program or attraction for any type of sexual orientation. Our receptionists will be happy to help you find the one that fits you the best.

Do you have private rooms?

Yes, we have private rooms in all our locations.

Do you provide towels?

Towels are provided in private rooms. But, if you are staying in a shared accomodation, you can rent a towel at the reception for only 10 BRL.

Is going to the beach safe?

As a guest of El Misti Hostels, you will have access to partner kiosks in both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. You can leave your belongings thereand get the Wifi password for free.

What happens if I loose something during my stay in the hostel?

You can talk to our reception staff they are here to help you!

What language does the reception staff speak?

All our receptionists speak Portuguese, English or Spanish.

Tours

How can I get to Ilha Grande?

We can arrange transportation to Ilha Grande (2 hours) twice a day: 7AM or 12PM. This option is the most convenient and the fastest. You can book the transfer with our Costumer Service, or do it at the reception once you arrive at the hostel.

If you wish to go to Ilha Grande by your own means, you can catch a bus from Rodoviária Novo Rio to Mangaratiba (earliest one is at 4:30AM) and then catch a ferry to Ilha Grande (2 hours).

How can I pay the excursions/tours?

All excursions/tours need to be paid by cash, this is due to our partners conditions.

How do I go to Cristo Redentor (Corcovado)?

Our partner Urban Adventures offers tours to Cristo on a daily basis. The tour lasts for 5 hours, transportation and entrance to Cristo are included.

How do I go to Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf)?

Our partner Urban Adventures offers tours to Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf) on a daily basis. The tour lasts for 5 hours, transportation and entrance to Pão de Açúcar (Sugar Loaf) are included.

Where can I book excursions/tours?

You can book excursions and tours with me upon arrival, I could also make you a package with all inclusiveor you can book straight at the reception after arrival.
